idfg-staff
Get ready, upland bird hunters! September 20 is the big day for you! Chukar and gray partridge, California quail and sage grouse seasons all open that Saturday when shooting hours begin one-half hour before sunrise. Sage grouse seasons run through Sept. 26 in Area 2 and through Oct. 12 in Area 3. There is no open season in Area 1. Check the upland bird rules brochure or online http://www2.state.id.us/fishgame/common/regulations/ug/ug.htm to see area descriptions. The limit in Area 2 is one per day and two in possession after the first day. In Area 3, limits are two per day and four in possession. California quail season runs through December 31 in Area 2, and is not open in Area 1. See the rules for area descriptions. Limits are 10 daily and 20 in possession after the first day. The season and limits on bobwhite quail are the same, but there are few bobwhites in Idaho. Chukar and gray (Hungarian) partridge seasons run through January 15, 2004, statewide. Limits are eight daily and 16 in possession after the first day. Motorized vehicle traffic when hunting in game management unit 47 is restricted to established roadways capable of travel by full-sized vehicles. For the first time, youth ages 10 and 11 can hunt using a Youth Small Game License that costs only $6.50. It is valid for upland game birds, turkeys, migratory game birds, cottontail rabbits, unprotected species and predatory birds and animals when accompanied by an adult with a valid Idaho hunting license. The Hunter Education Graduate License is free for first-year license purchasers age 10-17 who have graduated an approved hunter education course. It can be used for the same species as the small game license except turkey.
