Leftover Moose Permits Go On Sale June 16

idfg-staff
Moose permits left over after the drawing for trophy species controlled hunts will go on sale June 16. Sales will begin at 10 a.m. Mountain Time at all Idaho vendors and Fish and Game offices. No sales will be made over the Internet or by telephone. Permits can be picked up at offices or vendors for hunters who are outside Idaho. June 16 was picked as the sales date because the regular date falls on Sunday this year. To purchase a leftover moose permit, hunters must have a valid Idaho hunting license, pay the $6.50 application fee and the $6.50 permit fee and the tag fee which is $164.50 for residents and $1,514.50 for nonresidents. In previous sales of leftover moose permits, there has been some confusion about the effect of using a leftover permit. The rule has, in the past, made the taking of moose a strictly once-in-a-lifetime event. The rule has been clarified by the Idaho Fish and Game Commission to provide: 1.Any person, including those: a.successful in drawing a controlled hunt permit for bighorn sheep, mountain goat or moose, and b.unsuccessful in drawing a controlled hunt for moose, and c.those who have received a left-over permit previously, and d.those who have killed a moose previously, may apply for any leftover moose permit 2.No person may take more than one moose per year. 3.No person whose name was drawn on any controlled or leftover permit hunt for moose and who did not harvest a moose, may apply for any controlled moose hunt for a period of two years (except that person is eligible to receive a left-over moose permit). 4.Any moose harvested using any controlled hunt permit (including a left-over permit) will make that person ineligible to obtain any except a leftover permit in the future. 5.There is no longer any limit to the number of moose an individual person may harvest in their lifetime.
