The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is encouraging first-time archery hunters to sign up for the season's last remaining bowhunter education course scheduled for July 23, 25, 30 and 31, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the Lewiston Police training center in Lewiston. To register, contact IDFG at 799-5010, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This course will be the last opportunity to attend the required training before archery season begins this fall. Anyone who has not previously held a valid archery permit in Idaho or another state is required to complete the bow hunter education course, or provide proof of a previously held archery stamp or course from any state before they can purchase an Idaho archery permit. This permit is required for all archery-only hunts. The course will average 12 hours, with ethics, hunter responsibility and safety emphasized throughout. Students will learn and participate through lectures, demonstrations, group discussion and dilemmas, practical exercises and field day activities. Students must be at least 11-years old to register. Fees for the workbook and course materials is $8.00. Parents or legal guardians are encouraged to accompany young students to the first meeting.
