Landscape Your Backyard For Wildlife!

idfg-staff
IDAHO FALLS - While large mammals such as moose and deer have been known to pay occasional uninvited visits to people's yards in Idaho Falls, some folks actually go out of their way to create a setting that is intentionally attractive to smaller fauna. Designing backyard landscaping that benefits both wildlife and increases viewing opportunities is a growing trend in America. On Saturday, June 19th the annual Landscaping For Wildlife program will be held in Idaho Falls area. Eight different homes that have been landscaped for wildlife will be open to the public, free of charge. According to IDFG Nongame Biologist Lauri Hanauska-Brown, "It's a great opportunity for wildlife lovers to get out and gather new ideas on how they could do things in their own yards to benefit wildlife." The program will feature eight different homes; each with landscaping designed to benefit different types of wildlife. The homes are located in variety of settings and provide excellent examples of the wide variety of creative things that can be done to benefit wildlife and increase viewing opportunities. The program is being sponsored by the Idaho Nursery Association, Idaho Fish & Game, Snake River Audubon Society, and the Bonneville County Master Gardeners. All homes will be open to the public from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Homeowners will be on hand to answer questions and provide ideas on how people can get started in their own yards. The following homes will be featured this year:
