Idaho Fish and Game

Lake Pend Oreille Fishery Recovery Meeting

idfg-staff
The Idaho Department of Fish and Game will be hosting a public meeting from 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, January 21, at the Sandpoint Community Center, 204 S. First Ave., to discuss results from the deep-water trap net project, the status of the kokanee population and to gather comments on predator-prey management issues. The discussion will cover the rising lake trout population, kokanee decline and trophy rainbow trout fishing. Fishing regulations were changed in 2000 to try and reverse the kokanee decline. Kokanee fishing was closed, rainbow trout limits were increased to six any size and the limit on lake trout was removed. A commercial rod and reel fishery on lake trout was implemented in 2003. Individuals with disabilities needing special accommodations to attend the meeting should contact Ned Horner at the Idaho Department of Fish and Game at 208-769-1414, or through the Idaho Relay Service at 1-800-377-3529 (TDD).
