Lack of Snow Prompts Craig Mountain Gate Closures

idfg-staff
LEWISTON - With the recent warm weather prompting big game to return to higher elevations, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) will close the access gates on the Craig Mountain Wildlife Management Area beginning December 20, 2006. The gate closure is designed to enhance wildlife security and to prevent unauthorized motorized use of the area, not to restrict snowmobile use. The gates will be re-opened if the snow depth increases to greater than 16 inches. Snowmobilers are urged to use extreme caution in avoiding hidden obstacles which are rapidly appearing. The Lewis and Clark Snowdrifters annually groom and remove obstacles from almost 200 miles of trails on Craig Mountain and surrounding area to enhance access and improve safety. Please contact the Clearwater Regional office at 799-5010 if you have questions concerning snowmobiling on Craig Mountain.
