IDFG Seeks Specific Input From Mule Deer Hunters

idfg-staff
IDAHO FALLS - While everybody has a hunting story, IDFG is currently looking to talk to mule deer hunters specifically to see how the Department should work on structuring regulations for future management as work begins to craft future big game regulations. Mule deer hunters are encouraged to fill out surveys that are available regional offices, statewide scoping meetings and at IDFG's website. According to State Big Game Manager Brad Compton, "We want to hear how hunters would like us to approach management of those units with low buck:doe ratios." Last week, IDFG sent out surveys to 800 randomly selected deer hunters from targeted units that had low buck:doe ratios. It not only seeks information on hunter's preferences, it also outlines potential management strategies and the likely outcome of each. In addition to the mailed surveys, copies of the survey are available at regional offices and will also be available at upcoming big game regulation scoping meetings. For those sportsmen unable to attend meetings or make it to a regional office, the survey can completed over the Internet and can be accessed by going to: http://www2.state.id.us/fishgame/News/NewAdditions/survey/mule_deer.cfm. Because survey input will be used in the ongoing development of future big game regulations, it is important that surveys be completed as soon as possible. Deadline for completion in the Upper Snake Region is 5:00 P.M. on Friday, February 7, 2003.
