IDFG Seeks Help Solving Moose Poachings

idfg-staff
MOSCOW - The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking information concerning the recent shooting and wasting of two bull moose in the Moscow and Bovill areas. Both moose are thought to have been shot from nearby roads and within the last 10 days. One carcass was found in the Round Meadows area south of Bovill near road 1963. The head was not removed and no meat was taken. The other moose was found northwest of Moscow Mountain, north of Moscow. The head was removed as well as a small quantity of meat. Anyone having knowledge about these crimes or other wildlife-related violations are encouraged to call the toll-free CAP hotline at 1-800-632-5999, their local conservation officer or any law enforcement authority. Callers will remain anonymous, and cash rewards are available if the information is sufficient for a citation or a warrant to be issued. A conviction is not necessary. "Hunters should be outraged," said Clint Rand, IDFG conservation officer based in Moscow. "Not only did the poachers break the law, but they stole from every ethical hunter wanting a chance to hunt them." Moose hunting in Idaho is restricted to those who are successful in a lottery drawing for a limited number of tags. Hunters who drawn and harvest a moose can only take one Idaho moose in their lifetime. Every illegal killing of a moose takes an opportunity away from a legal hunter who would like to have the rare, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
