IDFG To Host Workshop For Women

idfg-staff
IDAHO FALLS - No matter how liberated we pretend to be, most of us automatically associate hunting and outdoors with being guy things; but the times are changing and IDFG is working to help women become more comfortable in the outdoors and with hunting. A clinic especially for women will be held at the Cedar Hills Gun Club on Saturday, August 25. Women's clinics are not a new thing for IDFG. For the past five years the Department has made efforts all across the state to provide specialized workshops for both women and young people to help get them involved in fishing, hunting, and related outdoor activities. Women who attend the clinic will learn about the basics of safe gun handling and will get a chance to shoot handguns, rifles and shotguns. They will also learn about other important skills such as wilderness survival and map & compass skills. The clinic is free, but space is limited on a first-come basis. A free lunch will also be offered as part of the workshop. According to Regional Hunter Education Technician, Steve Peterson, "Many of these women come from hunting families, but no one has ever taken the time to show them what it's all really about. Their eyes just light up when finally get a chance to shoot." The clinic will last all day and advance registration is required. Detailed information about the clinic will be provided to those who register in advance. No walk-ins will be accepted. Registrations may be placed over the phone by calling 525-7290 and speaking with Steve Peterson of the Idaho Falls IDFG Office.
