Hunter education instructors needed

JEROME - Hunter education classes are in full swing with more than 789 registered students ranging in age from 9 to 12 years old signed up throughout the Magic Valley Region. "We have filled-up all the classes we had scheduled and are trying to plan more," said Clayton Nielson, Fish and Game hunter education coordinator. "We currently have a waiting list of more than 169 students." This is the largest group of students to sign-up for spring hunter education classes ever. Generally the Magic Valley Region will provide training for roughly 1,400 students a year. With the recent changes allowing 9 and 10 year olds to attend the training course, the department is expecting to register more than 2,000 students. To help manage the increase in students, Nielson is planning to host classes to recruit more Hunter Education instructors. The class will be held March 15, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Desert Building 113 at the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls. "Anyone interested in attending needs to call, said Nielson. That way we will know how many people to expect and can have the materials we need for them." People interested in becoming a Hunter Education instructor or students interested in taking a class should call 324-4359.
