More than 60 percent of these courses are taught between January and April. All courses are taught by trained volunteer instructors that often teach only winter and spring classes. The longer students wait, the less likely there will be a course offered in their area before the spring turkey season. Idaho law requires that anyone born after January 1, 1975 must complete an IDFG hunter education course as a prerequisite to purchasing a hunting license. Students must be 10 years old prior to the general hunting season. Parents or legal guardians are encouraged to accompany their youth and participate in the entire program.
