Hunt Expo

Idaho Fish and Game is hosting the second annual two-day event entitled “HUNT IDAHO: Connecting Mountains to Meals: Preparing you for your next hunting adventure!"

It will be Friday, Aug. 26 from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Lewis-Clark Wildlife Club Shooting Range at 27007 Tom Beale Road near Lapwai and Saturday, Aug. 27 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Idaho Fish and Game regional office at 3316 16th St. in Lewiston.

Anyone interested in hunting, from those who've never picked up a gun or bow to experienced hunters who would like to learn different aspects of hunting, or past hunters who want to resume hunting, are all invited to attend.

“Participants of the event will become connected to the tradition of hunting through a series of educational, hands-on workshops,” said Jerome Hansen, Clearwater regional supervisor. "This event was so much fun last year, we decided to offer it again.”

Fish and Game personnel and Lewis-Clark range staff will be available starting at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26 to instruct people on safe firearms handling, shooting shotguns and trying various rifle calibers. A barbeque dinner will be served starting at 4 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 27 will include a series of outdoor events at the regional F&G office in Lewiston.

“It can be overwhelming for a first-time hunter as they learn where to hunt, what to pack, choosing the right weapon, and techniques and regulations for the animals they wish to pursue,” Hansen said. “Our goal is to help make the learning process easier by providing information within a series of workshops offered throughout the day. Come for part or all of the day to learn more."

Emphasis will be given to wildlife biology and wildlife habitat, hunting techniques and equipment, how to safely use, care for and select a firearm for purchase, as well as how to field dress, process and cook your meat.

Workshop participants can also taste wild game cooked in a variety of ways from Dutch Oven to stir fry. Lunch will be served by the Boy Scouts and 4H shooting sports from 11a.m. to 2 p.m.

Specialized workshops will also be offered on topics such as: horse packing, bear hunting in the Clearwater, calling elk, traditional vs. modern archery, upland game bird hunting, duck hunting, women in hunting, and more.

Families are encouraged to attend. Kids activities include a BB gun shooting range, bow building and laser shooting.
