Got Fishing Fever ? Give Trout A Try

LEWISTON - - With steelhead season drawing to a close and salmon season right around the corner, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game reminds trout anglers that area lakes and reservoirs can also provide plenty of great fishing action. "We've been busy stocking area lakes and reservoirs with rainbow trout," says Robert Hand, fisheries biologist with IDFG, "so now's the time to get out and enjoy the spring weather." In the past few weeks, Mann Lake has been stocked with 17,500 rainbow trout, and Dworshak reservoir has received an additional 20,000 trout. The Dworshak fish were released at the Dent boat ramp due to the reservoir water release schedule and the potential for fish to be flushed through the dam. An additional 40,000 rainbows will be stocked in Dworshak within the next month. IDFG's plan to stock Winchester, Spring Valley, Moose Creek, Elk Creek reservoirs and Waha Lake have been hampered by the late spring, but they will plan to stock these waters within the next month. All area lowland lakes and reservoirs in the Clearwater Region are open to fishing year-around, and anglers can keep 6 rainbow trout per day. Anglers are encouraged to pick up a copy of the fishing regulations before they head outdoors, and specific information on area waters can be obtained by contacting Fish and Game's Lewiston office at 799-5010.
