Former Forest Supervisor Named Commissioner

Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter has tapped a former national forest supervisor as the new Fish and Game commissioner in the Clearwater Region. Fred Trevey has been a natural resource management consultant in Lewiston since 1999. Before that, he served as supervisor of the Clearwater National Forest from 1988 to 1991, and of the Coconino National Forest from 1991 to 1998. Trevey is also a member of the Kelly Creek Flycasters. He holds a bachelor's degree in forestry and wildlife management from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and has 32 years of professional experience in natural resources management. Trevey will succeed Commissioner Alex Irby on the on the seven-member commission. Irby's term expired June 30. "Idaho sportsmen are lucky to have someone with Fred's talent and insight willing to take on this responsibility," Otter said. "He has a well-earned reputation for bringing folks together to work through tough problems. I'm very pleased to have Fred working on behalf of our wildlife resources, sportsmen and all of Idaho." Trevey must be confirmed by the state Senate. His term on the Fish and Game Commission runs through June 2011. Otter also reappointed Commission Chairman Cameron Wheeler of Ririe to a new four-year term through June 2011.
