Fishing to Close on Clearwater, South Fork Clearwater and Lochsa

Salmon fishing on the Clearwater River upstream of the Orofino Bridge closes at the end of fishing hours Wednesday, June 17. A week later, salmon fishing also will close on the South Fork Clearwater and Lochsa rivers at the end of fishing hours Wednesday, June 24. Fishery managers for the Idaho Department of Fish and Game estimate that by June 17, anglers will have harvested about 95 percent of the state's harvest share of adult hatchery Chinook salmon returning to the Clearwater River drainage. Managers estimate that anglers in the South Fork Clearwater and Lochsa rivers through June 24, will have taken the remainder of the state's harvest share. Harvest is estimated by weekly angler surveys. Overall for the season, Fish and Game officials estimated that the salmon fishery in the Clearwater River drainage, which opened April 25, generated more than 9,600 angler days of fishing and the harvest of about 1,900 adult and 2,000 jack Chinook salmon.
