Idaho Fish and Game

Fish Limits Suspended at Mountain Home Reservoir

idfg-staff
By order of the Department of Fish and Game, fish bag, possession and size limits at Mountain Home Reservoir have been suspended effective Friday, June 22. Anglers in possession of a valid fishing license are encouraged to catch as many fish from the reservoir as they can eat. Mountain Home Reservoir is the third reservoir in southwest Idaho to have a salvage order imposed. Fish limits were lifted at Indian Creek and Black's Creek Reservoirs earlier this month. The reservoir is a victim of Southern Idaho's current drought conditions. "We anticipate that Mountain Home Reservoir will be dry by mid-July," Fish and Game fisheries manager Jeff Dillon noted. "We want to encourage anglers to take the remaining fish home, rather than have them go to waste." As drought conditions continue, water levels in other regional waters are being closely monitored Dillon said, but only Mountain Home, Indian Creek and Black's Creek Reservoirs are open to fish salvage at this time. As part of the limit suspension on the three reservoirs, anglers may use rod and reel, handheld landing nets and legal minnow seines to collect fish from the reservoir. All other collection methods are prohibited, and fish must be killed prior to transport from the catch site. For more information, contact Jeff Dillon at the Fish and Game Nampa office, 465-8465.
