The National Wild Turkey Federation has recognized Fish and Game senior conservation officer Dan Hislop as Idaho's best wildlife law enforcement officer. With the 2002 Federation award in hand, Hislop now becomes Idaho's nominee to receive the National Wildlife Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award, to be announced in February at the Federation's Annual Convention in Nashville, Tennessee. Award nominees were evaluated in work performance categories such as violation case involvement, public relations, attitude, enthusiasm, professionalism, dependability, investigative skills and efforts on and off the job to support the hunting heritage. Hislop received the award based on his outstanding contributions to wildlife resource protection with an emphasis placed on his efforts to enhance wild turkey populations in Idaho. National Wild Turkey Federation chief executive officer Rob Keck had high praise for Hislop at the awards ceremony. "This nomination demonstrates Dan's high level of professionalism and dedication to the resource. Simply put, Dan's co-workers, supervisors and the Wild Turkey Federation's top volunteers consider him the very best officer in the state," noted Keck. "Without his unwavering commitment to protect the resource from poachers, early restoration efforts and wildlife management strategies would never have succeeded. In addition, his support of the Federation's fund raising, conservation and education programs has been invaluable." Hislop is the resident conservation officer in Weiser, where he resides with his wife and two children. He holds a degree in wildlife biology from Colorado State University and started his conservation officer career with Fish and Game in 1989, working in Salmon. Hislop will represent Fish and Game at the National Wild Turkey Federation's Annual Convention, and will participate in a variety of wild turkey management seminars and workshops with other state representatives from across the U.S.
