Fish and Game Commission to Meet in Lewiston

The Idaho Fish and Game Commission will meet November 1 through 3 at the Clearwater Regional office in Lewiston. The meeting will kick off with a field trip to Redbird Canyon on Wednesday morning, November 1, followed at about 1:30 p.m. by a workshop on hunting technology. A public hearing will start at 7 p.m. The second day starts with a series of housekeeping items at 8 a.m. Thursday, November 2. At about 10:25 a.m. commissioners will hear a review of elk habitat in the region and a progress report on a pheasant initiative. At 11:30, commissioners will consider nonresident deer and elk tag quotas and nonresident outfitter set-asides. After lunch they will hear an update on the department's proposal to reduce the wolf population in the Lolo Zone, followed by updates on the trophy species program and an Access Yes! pilot program. At 8 a.m. Friday, November 3, Commissioner Bob Barowsky will present an off-road vehicle overview for the Southwest Region. Commissioners next will consider a revised memorandum of understanding between the Idaho Fish and Wildlife Foundation and the Department of Fish and Game. Commissioners also will consider Lake Coeur d'Alene fishing regulations, and they will get an update on the 2006-2007 steelhead run size. At about 10:15 a.m., the commissioners will elect a new chairman and set their meeting calendar for 2007. All times on the agenda are approximate and subject to change.
