F&G to Hold Free Fishing Day June 10

POCATELLO - A summer in southeast Idaho is never short on fun, outdoor activities for the whole family to enjoy-especially when it comes to fishing. Saturday, May 27th, marks the opening day of the general fishing season. Though most flat waters (reservoirs, lakes, and ponds) throughout southeast Idaho are open year round, many of the streams and rivers which have been closed during the winter months will be ready for anglers to drown worms and wet flies. Just around the corner from opening day is another statewide event- Free Fishing Day scheduled for June 10th. On this day, anyone can fish for free-no license required. This is just another way Fish and Game "lures" folks outside to enjoy a day of fresh air, family, and fishing. McTucker Ponds, located in Bingham County near Springfield, is the site of a Free Fishing Day event being sponsored by the Southeast Regional Office of the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. The event is free and runs from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm on June 10th, though anglers are welcome to fish all day at the ponds. Though anglers of all skill levels are welcome to attend, the event at McTucker ponds is geared toward new anglers of any age and is a perfect activity for the family. Fish and Game personnel and volunteers will be on hand to help with fishing basics, from baiting a hook to reeling in a catch. The main focus of this event is to catch fish, though there will be a few fun and educational activity stations for kids, with items to be given away while supplies last. And no fishing experience is complete without hot dogs and soda pop! For more information about this Free Fishing Day event at McTucker Ponds, or other events planned in the region, contact Fish and Game at 232-4703.
