Idaho Fish and Game

Dove Validation Required

idfg-staff
When mourning dove season begins September 1, hunters need to have a migratory bird validation on their hunting licenses. Mourning dove hunting rules are governed nationwide by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service which requires states to collect a fee to fund migratory bird harvest information collection. The fee in Idaho is $1.50. Those who have already bought the validation will see it listed on their hunting licenses. The migratory bird validation applies to doves, ducks, geese and sandhill cranes. The validation is not required for hunting forest grouse, which also begins on September 1. Another validation applies to sage and sharp-tailed grouse. The validation is available at all license vendors and Fish and Game offices.
