Idaho Fish and Game

Craig Mountain WMA Gates to Close

idfg-staff
With area big game animals returning to higher elevations, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game will close gates on the Craig Mountain Wildlife Management Area March 15. The closure date was selected in cooperation with local snowmobile groups and hunters to reduce disturbance of game animals and provide security to wild turkeys during the spring season that begins on April 15. Several conflicts have occurred in the past with motorized vehicles entering the area after the closure date. Fish and Game reminds all drivers of motorized vehicles who violate area closures that they are subject to a misdemeanor citation, including fines up to $1,000 and up to six months in jail. Because of the lack of snow in the area, snowmobile riders are urged to use increased caution. Hazards such as stumps and rocks are rapidly appearing and travel is becoming difficult with snow becoming very soft by afternoon. The Wildlife Management Area will remain open to access; gates only restrict motorized access.
