Craig Mountain Gates Closed Until More Snow

LEWISTON - With unseasonably warm winter weather, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game reminds winter recreationists that even though the Craig Mountain Wildlife Management Area is open to snowmobiling, the access gates will remain closed until more snow has fallen. The gates are designed to enhance wildlife security and to prevent motor vehicle damage, not to restrict snowmobile use. The area opens annually to snowmobiles on November 21. This date was selected in cooperation with local snowmobile groups to allow use of the area after most hunting season have closed in Unit 11 and big game animals have migrated to lower elevations. The Lewis and Clark Snowdrifters annually groom and remove obstacles on almost 100 miles of trails on Craig Mountain and surrounding area to enhance access and improve safety. For more information on the Craig Mountain Wildlife Management Area, please contact the IDFG Clearwater Region office at 799-5010.
