Commission to Meet November 28-30

The Idaho Fish and Game Commission will meet at Fish and Game headquarters, 600 South Walnut, in Boise, November 28-30. There will be a seminar at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 28 in the Morrison-Knudsen Nature Center and a public hearing in the Trophy Room at Fish and Game headquarters at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Any subject pertaining to Fish and Game business may be addressed at the hearing. The seminar November 28 will feature Dr. Mike Manfredo, chair of the Department of Natural Resource Recreation at Colorado State University. The topic is "Shifting Streams of Thought in Natural Resource Conflict in America." It is open to the public at no charge. On November 29, the Commission will meet in the Trophy Room from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for a comprehensive planning workshop, a "warm up" for the long range planning process which Fish and Game is entering. Routine Commission business may be addressed after the workshop, until 5:00 p.m. The meeting will resume at 8:00 a.m. Friday, November 30. Topics on the agenda include approval of rules for wild turkey seasons in 2002, potential closure of a mountain goat season in Unit 59, and establishing bag and possession limits for the spring steelhead season. The commission will consider two conservation easements and two property acquisitions and hear a status report on land ownership by Fish and Game. Preliminary results on the economic impact of the 2001 salmon seasons will be reviewed, and a report on the current steelhead run will be given. There will be a status report on the department's pheasant management report. A Commission chair and vice-chair will be elected for 2002.
