Chinook Salmon On Display at MK Nature Center

idfg-staff
Seven Chinook salmon are now swimming in the waters of the MK Nature Center in Boise. The fish were trucked to the nature center from the trap on the South Fork of the Salmon River near Cascade. Visitors to the Nature Center will have the opportunity to view the Chinook over the next several weeks, and will likely get the opportunity to watch them spawn through the viewing windows. Nature Center superintendent Dave Cannamela says having the salmon in the pond provides the perfect opportunity to teach people about Idaho's anadromous fish. "People love seeing these huge fish," Cannamela said "A lot of people don't know we have these fish that migrate all the way to the Pacific Ocean where they live for several years before returning to Idaho. So it's a great opportunity to teach people about these fish, their importance to Idaho, and the reasons for their decline." Visitors to the MK Nature Center can walk the trails and view the Chinook Salmon from sunrise to sunset, seven days a week.
