The ninth annual Kid's Conservation Day runs from 8 a.m. to about 2 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at Atwood Ponds, near Payette. Activities include:
  • Fishing Clinic:
    • Bank and boat fishing in stocked ponds.
    • Boat safety.
  • Archery Range:
    • Bow and arrow safety.
    • Target shooting.
  • 4-H Pellet Guns:
    • Basic firearms safety.
    • Target shooting.
  • Sensory Safari Trailer:
    • Hands-on wildlife exhibits.
  • Idaho Fish and Game C.A.P. Trailer:
    • Fish and Game law enforcement exhibits.
  • Shotgun Range (older youths only):
    • Basic firearms safety.
    • Clay target shooting.
  • Climbing Wall
  • ATV Course
Children ages 6 to 17 are free - parents included. Children and parents are reminded to bring sunscreen and bug spray, just in case. This day is for youths to come and participate in activities designed to get them interested in something outdoors. To get an application, contact Leroy Atwood at 208-941-5019 or Mark Bell at 208-442-6900. Volunteers are welcome. Directions: Black Canyon Exit 13, north from interstate 84. Go north to Emmett/ Payette Highway 52. It is 12.6 miles from exit 13 to the road to the ranch. Watch for signs. Idaho Fish and Game is among the sponsors of this event along with the Treasure Valley Chapter of Safari Club International, Cascade Extension Agent, Nampa Bow Chiefs, Snake River Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation.
