Buy a Leftover Tag AND Apply Next Year!

idfg-staff
Many hunters are asking Fish and Game this question: If I buy a leftover deer or elk tag, can I still apply for a controlled hunt next year? The answer is yes for deer and elk. The rule is different for those who purchased a leftover moose tag. The rule restricting a person from drawing in subsequent years does not apply to the leftover controlled hunt tags which went on sale July 15, or to the unclaimed controlled hunt tags which will go on sale beginning at 10:00 a.m. Mountain time, 9:00 a.m. Pacific time, August 30. Hunters who were successful in the regular controlled hunt drawing for deer, elk, antelope and fall black bear have until August 20 to purchase their tags at any license vendor. Tags not claimed by that date will be made available on a first-come, first-served basis August 30. Any nonresident general-season deer and elk tags not sold will be available to residents and/or nonresidents beginning August 28, for use as a second tag. They will sell at nonresident prices.
