Idaho Fish and Game

Blackstone Reservoir Goes Dry

idfg-staff
If you've been planning a fishing trip to extreme southwestern Idaho, scratch Blackstone Reservoir off your list. The reservoir is bone dry. The state's newest "trophy" fishery located near Grasmere began draining several weeks ago when a water release valve failed. The 40+ acre reservoir drained quickly in the days that followed. Valve repairs will be completed this summer. Because the reservoir fills via snowpack, there's no chance that it will be available for fishing yet this year. "We'll be reevaluating the situation next spring," Fish and Game fisheries manager Dale Allen noted. "With normal snowpack, the reservoir should fill easily allowing us to reestablish the fishery."
