Become a Hunter or Archery Education Instructor

idfg-lfrench
Each year in Idaho Fish and Game's Southeast Region, volunteer hunter education instructors teach basic hunter education course to about 1,000 students. Recruiting new instructors is critical to the hunter education program. Are you a safe and responsible rifle or archery hunter? Would you like to share your hunting skills with youth and others? Becoming an Idaho hunter or bowhunter education instructor can be a rewarding volunteer activity, and it is easy. New instructor orientations are scheduled in the following communities, and each workshop will run from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. To register please contact Terri Bergmeier at 208-251-6510. - February 16: Blackfoot - Senior Center, 20 E Pacific Street. - February 17: Malad - Court House, 10 Court Street. - February 22: Soda Springs - Caribou Co. Fire Station, 655 E 2nd S. - March 2: Pocatello - Fish and Game Regional Office, 1345 Barton Road. - March 3: Preston - Larsen-Sant Library, 109 S 1st E. Instructor orientation outlines how to organize the class, select meeting sites, how to order supplies and how to get students registered and finally certified. Instructors learn how to use lesson plans, how to teach using various methods, and how to employ effective teaching styles. The heart of Idaho's hunter-archery education program is the corps of volunteers who provide the instruction. Hunter-archery education instructors stand as examples of what each new hunter should be in ethics, behavior and responsibility to themselves, landowners, other hunters and the resource.
