Bald Eagle Shot Near Avery, ID

An immature bald eagle near Avery, Idaho was looking for an easy meal when it came across the entrails of a recently harvested moose. From the looks of things, it fed on the treat for a day or perhaps two. It was likely snoozing, or just looking the other direction when a poacher approached and took aim. The eagle was shot and killed while perched atop a snag located near the moose remains. It was shot with a high-powered rifle near Siwash Peak southeast of Avery. The site is approximately 3 miles in on Forest Service Road 390. If anyone has information about this malicious and senseless killing, you are asked to call the Citizen's Against Poaching Hotline at 1-800-632-5999 or your local Conservation Officers at 245-8100 and 689-9195. Callers may remain anonymous. If your information leads to charges being filed on the shooter, you will receive a substantial cash reward from the Citizen's Against Poaching Reward Fund. This type of wildlife crime sickens hunters and wildlife watchers. Your help is requested to help catch this violator. Shooting or killing a Bald Eagle or Golden Eagle is punishable by a minimum fine of $5000 and/or one year in jail.
