Attention Future Hunters: Register Now for Final Hunter Education Course Offered in Moscow-Area

idfg-staff
MOSCOW - - The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is offering the final scheduled hunter education course for Moscow area youth. Because of high interest and limited space, prospective students are strongly encouraged to register for this class soon so they can complete the course in time to buy a license to hunt this fall. The course will run from May 5 to May 31, 2003. It will be held 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at the Latah County Fairgrounds. For more information and to register, contact Clifford Beck at 882-1014. Registration requires an address, phone number, date of birth and social security number for each student. Cost is $8 for the student's workbook and ammunition. Parents or legal guardians are encouraged to accompany their youth and participate in the entire program. IDFG provides 350 hunter education courses statewide each year. More than 60 percent of these courses are taught between January and April. All courses are taught by trained, volunteer instructors, that often times teach only winter and spring classes. The longer students wait, the less likely there will be a course offered in their area. Idaho law requires that anyone born after January 1st, 1975 must complete an IDFG hunter education course as a prerequisite to purchasing a hunting license. Students must be at least 9 years old to enroll in the course, which is a mix of classroom instruction and hands-on experiences that last approximately 12 hours.
