Anxious Anglers - Give Trout A Try

idfg-staff
LEWISTON - Anglers anxious for the spring chinook salmon season to arrive are reminded that many local lakes and reservoirs can provide plenty of great fishing action. "Grab your fishing pole and go catch some trout close to home, " says Robert Hand, fisheries biologist with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. "We plan to stock most waters by the end of next week." Dworshak Reservoir will receive 20,000 trout by Friday, April 16. The catchable-sized fish will be stocked at the Dent ramp due to the reservoir water release schedule and the potential for fish to be flushed through the dam. A second load of 20,000 will be stocked by April 27. Near the end of April, Deer Creek Reservoir, a newly constructed fishing water located near Headquarters, ID, will receive 10,000 catchable rainbow trout. Motorized access will be allowed annually from May 22 to September 30, while non-motorized access will be permitted year-round. All area lowland lakes and reservoirs in the Clearwater Region are open to fishing year-around, and anglers can keep 6 rainbow trout per day. Anglers are encouraged to review a copy of the fishing regulations before casting a line. The catchable-sized rainbow trout will be released at the following locations:
