Algae Can Kill Dogs

idfg-staff
A recent report of one hunting dog killed and another made ill after drinking from the Brownlee Reservoir pool in southwest Idaho points up a danger often overlooked. The fatal algae can be a danger to dogs any time warm weather and stagnant water promote its growth. Most species of algae are safe for dogs but canines cannot tolerate the blue-green form. Hunters should carry adequate water for their dogs and prevent them from drinking at pools where algae is present. The danger passes once cooler weather kills off the algae.
