About the position
Two wildlife technicians are needed on the Boise River Wildlife Management Area (WMA) to develop and implement habitat restoration and monitoring projects and perform other WMA maintenance duties. The Boise River WMA encompasses about 41,500 acres in the Boise foothills.
General Information
With or without reasonable accommodations, this position requires the physical ability to work in all weather conditions, ranging from hot and sunny to cool and rainy or snowy. The applicant must be able to walk off-trail, work on steep hillsides and riverbanks, lift up to 40 lbs., bend down to plant seedlings in the ground, and work full days indoors on a computer. The typical work week is 40 hours. The applicant must possess a valid driver’s license, and be able to safely operate farm equipment, 4x4 vehicles and off-road vehicles.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Good knowledge of wildlife ecology, habitat requirements and management practices; possess a valid driver’s license; experience recording, summarizing, analyzing, and synthesizing biological data using computer software to manage data.
Desired Qualifications: Ability to work and communicate effectively and cooperatively with WMA staff, supervisors, agency partners, neighboring landowners, and the public; experience identifying plant species and sampling vegetation; knowledge of habitat improvement project; experience managing data using GIS; experience using and maintaining farming equipment including tractors and other implements.

Responsibilities
Typical duties include planning and implementing habitat restoration projects in upland and riparian settings to include mechanical and hand-planting of shrubs and grasses; using herbicides to managing weeds; mowing fire breaks; operating and maintaining tractors and farm implements; using hand tools and power equipment for maintenance and construction; collecting habitat monitoring data; and supervising volunteer projects.
