About the position

The Panhandle Regional Office in Coeur d’Alene is seeking 1 non-benefited technician to assist wildlife management program staff in conducting CWD surveillance, camera trap deployment and retrieval, turkey trapping & monitoring and other duties as assigned. 

General Information
With or without reasonable accommodations, incumbents must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods of time, hike over rough and rugged terrain, safely drive for multiple hours per shift, work in adverse weather conditions, and be comfortable sampling dead animals and interacting with the public.

Incumbents will typically work 40 hours with 2 days off per week. Work hours will vary depending on need and incumbents will often be required to work during weekends, evenings, and long shifts, occasionally with minimal supervision.

Optional camp trailer housing with access to a shared kitchen and bathrooms is available for this position.
Qualifications
Applicants must be able to interact with the public in a professional and positive manner, work independently, and follow established protocols while accurately collecting data and sampling wildlife. Applicants should be detail oriented, self-motivated, and safety conscious. Previous experience handling turkeys, performing field necropsies, and collecting biological samples is preferred but not required. A valid driver's license is required.
Responsibilities
Ensure accurate data collection, management, and entry; collect CWD samples from deer, elk and moose; organize transport of carcasses to approved disposal locations; coordinate shipments of samples to lab for testing; interact with the hunting public; game camera placement and retrieval; assist with turkey capture and monitoring; assist with other wildlife management tasks as needed such as assisting with depredation issues, and monitoring collared ungulates and conducting mortality investigations.
