About the position

The Idaho Fish and Game is seeking a year-round part-time Range Safety Officer for Black’s Creek Public Shooting Range (BCR) in Kuna, Idaho. This position works 19.5 hours per week scheduled during public shooting hours on location at BCR, to include weekends. Working outdoors and occasionally in inclement weather is required. This position is supervised by the IDFG Shooting Range Manager, but day-to-day responsibilities are guided by the Rangemaster (an employee of EE DA HOW Long Rifle & Pistol Club) and the IDFG Shooting Range Liaison.  

General Information
Provide a safe shooting environment for public shooting sports enthusiasts by monitoring the range shooting line and enforcing policy and procedures in accordance with the BCR Range Safety and Operations Plan. Incumbent works with range personnel on other such duties as deemed necessary for range operation.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
• Good working knowledge of basic firearm handling and use.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Ability to supervise and control a shooting range firing line using basic commands.
• Maintain a professional image and demeanor in accordance with Department standards.
• Promote shooting sports programs and public shooting opportunity in accordance with Department priorities.
• With or without reasonable accommodations, incumbents must be able to stand for long periods of time, sometimes in inclement weather.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Shooting range safety officer experience highly desired but not mandatory.
Responsibilities
This position will routinely provide positive and inviting customer service along with promoting shooting sports in a safe, ethical, and controlled environment. Incumbent will interact with public shooting enthusiasts via check-in, screening, and oversight during all phases of shooting operations.
The incumbent may provide additional office support via point-of-sales transactions for range equipment rentals, range use fees, and third-party vendor use fees.
This position requires working on weekend days as needed.
