Panhandle Region Scoping: "Electric motor only" regulations limiting fishing access

“Electric motor only” restrictions prohibit the use of internal combustion engines while fishing on 21 Panhandle Region lakes. The objective of these restrictions is to reduce boating conflicts and maintain a quiet atmosphere for anglers on small lakes.

Ten of these 21 lakes also have existing county ordinances more broadly limiting the use of internal combustion engines by all boaters. As such, IDFG “electric motor only” restrictions duplicate existing county ordinances, are not necessary to achieve the desired objective, and add unnecessary complexity in the regulation booklet.
