Lake Cacade Ice Fishing Update: Jan. 19

idfg-pjanssen

Ice conditions had improved through yesterday with the slush freezing up with the below zero temperatures. However, we got another 12-14 inches of snow last night and this morning so we would expect more water and slush on the ice as the weight of the new snow pushes down on the ice, forcing water up through the cracks and holes.  So beware, access conditions are or will soon be tough.

Fishing for yellow perch and rainbow trout was pretty good for folks that could get out into the deeper water ares. We checked numerous anglers with large perch last week. The perch were biting very softly and anglers had to wait patiently for the fish to take the bait all the way.   The areas directly in front of the access sites are usually pretty slow fishing so if possible seek out areas further away from these areas in deeper water. Also keep moving around until you find fish. The area between the island and the point south of Poison creek has been producing the majority of perch.  Most Rainbow trout are being caught while perch fishing.

We will be posting a new Cascade ice fishing blog every week or two on Thursday or Friday so check back!!
