Wolf Hunters Reminded to Check Zone Limits

idfg-nnokkentved
Hunters holding Idaho wolf tags need to be sure of the harvest limit of every wolf hunting zone they might encounter as they head out into the field. The Upper Snake Region managed by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game contains all or part of three different wolf management zones. In one of those zones, the Upper Snake Zone, the limit is five wolves, and as of October 19 three had been harvested, leaving two more until the zone closes to wolf hunting. The most up-to-date wolf harvest information is available by calling the toll-free hotline: 1-877-872-3190. The Fish and Game wolf harvest Web site is updated less frequently, but provides a zone map and other useful information: http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/cms/hunt/wolf/quota.cfm Harvest information is updated as soon as it is reported. Hunters are required to report within 24 hours of harvesting a wolf and then must present the hide and skull of the animal to a Fish and Game office within five days. All of the units in the Upper Snake Wolf Zone (Units 60, 60A, 61, 62, 62A, 64, 65, & 67) are within the Upper Snake Region. Only portions of the Southern Mountains Wolf Zone (Units 50, 51, 58, 59, & 59A) and the South Idaho Wolf Zone (63, 63A, 66, & 69) are within the Upper Snake Region. The limits for the Upper Snake and South Idaho Wolf Zones was set at five each, the Southern Mountains Wolf Zone at 10. The harvest limit for the entire state was set at 220 wolves. It is the responsibility of every hunter to know not only the harvest status for the zone they are hunting, but the boundaries and season specifics for the species they are hunting. Hunters with any questions may call any Fish and Game office, including the Upper Snake Region in Idaho Falls at 208-525-7290.
