Registration For Lewiston-area Bowhunter & Hunter Education Courses Begins December 13

LEWISTON - The Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) encourages first-time hunters to register for one of a number of upcoming hunter education courses scheduled for January and February. A bowhunter education course is scheduled for April. "These courses are ideal for those wanting to hunt the spring turkey season," said Kent Henderson, IDFG hunter education coordinator. "Hunters should register early in the week because the classes will fill fast." Only a limited number of students will be accepted and once the maximum number is reached, registration will close. Students or parent of students can register at the IDFG office, 1540 Warner Avenue, beginning Monday, December 13 at 8 a.m. Individuals can also register by phone beginning at 1 p.m. by calling 208-799-5010. A fee of $8.00 is required as well as the student's social security number, phone, date of birth and current mailing address. Students who will reach the age of 10 or older prior to the next general hunting season can choose from the following courses: - Hunter education course - January 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. & January 15, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., January 17, 18, 19 ,20, 21, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. & January 22, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. - Hunter education course, January 31, February 2, 3, 7, 9, 11, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. & February 12, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. In addition, youth ages 14 years and over who have completed the Idaho Hunter Education Home Study course or the new on-line course available through IDFG's website at http://hunter-ed.com/id/, can register for an Independent Study Course Completion Class to be held Saturday, January 8, 2005. To register for this class, students must show the pre-certification exam certificate from the on-line course or have already completed the home study course workbook. Archery enthusiasts can register for a bowhunter education course scheduled for April 23 & 24, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
