Idaho state records have been set for black crappie and tiger muskie recently. David Boyer of Hagerman caught a three-pound, 2.1-ounce black crappie at Brownlee Reservoir June 8. The record did not become official immediately because a careful analysis was needed to determine whether the crappie was a black or a white. The young fisherman was fishing a worm on six-pound test line, using a four-foot rod and closed-face reel when he set the record. He caught the huge crappie downstream from Steck Park near Weiser. The record fish was 16 _ inches long with a girth of 14 1/1 inches. Tiger muskies from Hauser Lake in Kootenai County have broken records every summer since the hybrid species took hold in that lake. The new record of 38 pounds, seven ounces was set by Douglas G. Butts of Eureka, Montana on June 16. The fish was 48 _ inches long with a girth of 22 _ inches. Butts took the muskie on a Mepps yellow bucktail fished on 30-pound braided line.
