After 2 years of fun and hard work, the Idaho Panhandle Bees to Bears Climate Adaptation Project is winding down.
Volunteers and IDFG employees have accomplished a lot during this time, and we're proud to present these accomplishments to you!
If this is the first you're reading about our project, take a look at our introductory video:
We've created quite a few blog posts to inform you about our work as well:
February 2018: Helping 6 Wildlife Species Beat Climate Change Odds
May 2019: A Wildflower Seed Collection Manual for the Bees to Bears Climate Adaptation Project
June 2019: Feast Fit for a Queen
July 2019: Rare Bumblebee Found on WMA
August 2019: Volunteers Find Rare Bumblebees on WMA
September 2019: ‘Tis the Season for Seeds
October 2019: How to Save a Seed… and an Ecosystem
November 2019: A Far-Away Meadow
Our volunteers have truly been the foundation of our success, contributing to:
25 group volunteer events
248 adult and child participants
11 species of bumblebee found during group surveys (including the Western Bumblebee!!!)
99 independent volunteer seed collections
47 different species of wildflower seeds collected
336 cups of seeds collected
1,310 volunteer hours, for a...
$47,112 value in matching grant funding!
And through the grants provided for this project, IDFG employees have created:
13 cool air refugia
4 ephemeral ponds and .75 miles of restored ephereal stream
24,435 newly planted trees and shrubs
It takes a community effort to get a project such as this out on the ground. Thank you many times over to all the volunteers and IDFG employees who worked on B2B. And deep gratitude to the organizations who partnered with us to help it happen!
