Youth turkey season opens April 8; Portneuf Wildlife Management Area still closed

idfg-jjackson

Youth turkey season runs April 8-14 for licensed hunters ages 10-17, and general spring turkey season for all hunters begins April 15 and finishes May 25 for most of the state.

However, before heading out, please note that a popular turkey hunting destination in southeast Idaho — the Portneuf Wildlife Management Area (WMA) — is still closed to public entry. Other closures on the eastern and southeastern side of the state include Georgetown, Montpelier, Tex Creek and Market Lake WMAs. These closures will help protect wintering big game animals and will remain in effect until further notice.

Please be aware that other public access closures may be in effect in a few places on public lands managed by other agencies since much of southeastern and eastern Idaho is still experiencing winter conditions.

To help hunters plan their turkey pursuits this year, Fish and Game published a Spring Turkey Hunting Outlook for the state.

If you have questions about the WMA closures or turkey hunting in your area, please contact your nearest regional Fish and Game office.
