Overview Summary and Rationale
Hunt Area 1-3 – Expand Hunt Area 1-3 to improve success rates and provide additional moose hunting opportunities beyond the traditional Cabinet Mountain area by adding more than 230,000 acres to the current hunt area.
This will provide harvest opportunity while maintaining stable to increasing moose populations, IDFG Moose Management Plan 2020-2025.

Moose Hunt Area Description
Hunt Area 1-3 — That portion of Unit 1 south of the Kootenai River and east of U.S. Highway 95. within the following boundaries: beginning on U.S. Highway 95 bridge across the Pend Oreille River at Sandpoint, then northward along Highway 95 to the Kootenai River at Bonner’s Ferry, then northwesterly along the Kootenai River to the U.S. border, then east along the U.S. border to the Montana state line, then south along the Montana state line. Except The David Thompson Game Preserve—Closed.
