Fish and Game partnered with Delta Waterfowl and our local Hunter Education instructors in the Upper Snake Region to provide a mentored youth hunt during the youth season opener. Ten recent Hunter Education graduates from around the region were treated to their first waterfowl hunt.
The hunt was a two day event that began with firearms training, sporting clays and duck identification. Time was spent with all ten youth to make sure they would be on target to hit a moving duck. “Everyone is getting dialed in,” says Hunter Education Coordinator Gerren Steel with Fish and Game. “They all seem to be having a great time and are super excited.”
Participants and their mentors woke up well before the sun on opening morning to get into position before legal shooting hours began. “Almost every kid harvested a duck,” says Steel. “Our mentors are some of the best.”
If you would like to nominate a first time hunter between the ages of 10-17 to participate in a mentored youth hunt, please reach out to Gerren Steel with Idaho Fish and Game at 208-525-7290.
