International Migratory Bird Day 2017

ROBERTS - Come outside and join us for International Migratory Bird Day (IMBD).  IMBD is a nationwide celebration of bird migration and conservation. Traditionally held on the second Saturday of May, because spring comes a little later to the Upper Snake Region the celebration is held a bit later, this year on Saturday, May 20th.

On May 20th, the day begins with guided bird walks at Camas NWR, canoe trip at Mud Lake Wildlife Management Area (WMA) and a walk along the dikes at Market Lake WMA.  Call the Idaho Department of Fish & Game (IDFG) regional office, 208-525-7290 to signup for these guided trips and for details.

Beginning at 9:00, you can meet with various organizations, view display booths and activities for the whole family at the Mustang Center N 2858 E Roberts, ID and at the Jones grave sites just off the Main Marsh Rd, Market Lake WMA (see map).

New this year is the Big Sit Competition.  Gather your friends and see which team can count the most birds between 5:00 A.M. and 1:00 P.M.  Register your team and location with Brett Gullett, 208-251-7138.  You don’t have to be an expert birder to enjoy Migratory Bird Day, we will have short birding lessons all day at the WMA.

Free lunch will be served between 11:00 and 2:00 at the WMA.  Also at the WMA, Teton Raptor Center will have a raptor demonstration at 2:00.

This event is co-sponsored by many agencies:  Idaho Department of Fish & Game, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, U.S. Forest Service, Friends of Camas, Snake River Audubon, Ducks Unlimited, Bureau of Land Management, Natural Resources Conservation Service, and The Nature Conservancy.
