CASTLEFORD - Idaho Department of Fish and Game Officers are investigating a case of a poached pronghorn antelope in the area of 1050 East and 3150 North of Castleford. "We found that a doe pronghorn had been skinned and gutted, and the individual took the meat of the pronghorn and left the hide and entrails near 1050 East Road," said Meghan Roos, Idaho Fish and Game Senior Conservation Officer. "The animal was likely killed sometime between the May 11 to 21." At first, officers initially investigated the incident as a possible road-kill due to its proximity to a roadway. However, after reviewing road-kill reports and discovering additional evidence at the scene, they now believe that the pronghorn was not a road-kill but was instead poached during a closed season. "The loss to the public was more than a single animal," said Roos. "During the investigation we found that the doe was pregnant with two fawns at the time it was killed. The fawns were left with the gut pile." People with information, leading to a conviction on these or other crimes are eligible for a reward through Citizens Against Poaching (CAP) and callers can remain anonymous. People can either contact CAP at 1-800-632-5999 twenty four hours a day or call the Fish and Game Regional office at 208-324-4359, or Officer Roos at 208-539-4428.
