Idaho Fish and Game

Opportunity for Youth to Learn About Waterfowl Hunting

idfg-sliebenthal
The Idaho Department of Fish & Game (IDFG) is accepting applications for a mentored youth duck hunt. The hunt will occur on September 27th at the Mud Lake wildlife management area (WMA). This is an opportunity for first time youth hunters between the ages of 10 and 15 who do not have someone to take them hunting. IDFG will provide a mentor, waders, guns, and ammo. All participants are required to purchase a Jr. hunting license and a migratory bird permit before the hunt at a total cost of $9.00. The license purchase requires having passed a Hunter Education course. Participating youth must have transportation to and from Mud Lake WMA. Special accommodation can be made where possible. The day will begin with lunch at 12:30 at the Mud Lake WMA followed by a duck identification class and a target shoot and then hunting until close to dark. Youth chosen to participate in this event will be contacted with exact details and directions. This is a great opportunity to get youth from non-hunting families out in the field with an experienced guide. Participants are sure to have lots of fun and create lifelong memories. If you are interested in this event or know a youth who is, please fill out an application at the IDFG office located on 4279 Commerce Circle in Idaho Falls. Applications must be turned in by September 22nd. Space is limited and walk-ins will not be accepted. For questions contact James Brower at (208) 525-7290 or through the Idaho Relay Service at 1-800-377-3529 (TDD) or by email at james.brower@idfg.idaho.gov. We look forward to meeting you and sharing Idaho's hunting heritage.
