Ice Anglers Warned of Unstable Ice at Winchester Lake
idfg-nnokkentved
Ice anglers at Winchester Lake are urged to be extra cautious as the water level could drop by as much as two feet because of maintenance work on the dam spillway.
The temporary spillway weir, designed to keep the lake level up through the winter, was damaged during a rainstorm March 2.
The increased outflow may result in an air gap between the water surface and ice, making the ice very unstable and hazardous to venture out on.
There is no threat to the dam. How much the water level drops will depend on the weather and inflow to the reservoir.
