High Water Forces Take Me Fishing Trailer Event Changes

idfg-nnokkentved
Normally the Snake River flows serenely through the center of Idaho Falls, but this year due to melt water from near record snow packs, the calm river is a raging torrent. High, fast, muddy and cold water make for poor fishing conditions, so Idaho Fish and Game, with cooperation from Idaho Falls Power, will be moving the next few Take Me Fishing trailer events to the Gem State Kids Pond south of Idaho Falls. The purpose of the trailer is to make it easier for families and people who have never fished before to get out and learn about this traditional passtime. Wherever the trailer appears, the site becomes a temporary free fishing spot for everyone who checks in. Along with allowing people to fish for free, the trailer is equipped with loaner fishing poles and all the gear and bait needed to have a fun time. Trailer staff teaches the basics of fishing and will help beginners clean their catch to take home for a delicious dinner. To help ensure success, most trailer locations are stocked with hatchery fish before an event. All the fish that would have been put into the Snake River and Willow Creek are being planted in the Gem State Kids Pond instead. Even though it is a youth fishing pond, Idaho Falls Power has agreed to let adults fish there for the times listed below. Saturday, June 11, All day - (staffed 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.) Monday, June 13, 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 5:30 to 8 p.m. To learn more about the Take Me Fishing trailer schedule visit: http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/cms/fish/misc/trailer/schedule.cfm.
