Idaho Fish and Game stocks over 30 million fish from its resident hatcheries into waters throughout the state every year, providing Idahoans with fishing opportunities for a variety of species.
With so many fish stocked in so many places, it can be hard for anglers to sift through the stocking forecasts and records to identify noteworthy stocking events. To make it easier, we asked Fish and Game hatchery staff to highlight some stocking events for the month of July.
Whether it is a large number of fish being stocked relative to the size of the water, a unique species, a new location, or a one-time-only stocking, we asked them to point out events anglers would be interested in knowing about. Here’s what they came up with:
July 2019 Fish Stocking Highlights
Panhandle Region
Dismal Lake – 450 rainbow trout. This is the only annual stocking event for this waterbody.
Clearwater Region
Fenn Pond – 500 rainbow trout. This pond was closed for several months for repairs. It is back up and running and this will be the third scheduled stocking event in 2019.
Southwest Region (Nampa)
Bull Trout Lake – 2,000 rainbow trout
Southwest Region (McCall)
Payette Lake – 5,000 rainbow trout
Upper Payette Lake – 5,000 rainbow trout. This is the only annual stocking event for this waterbody.
Magic Valley Region
Lake Cleveland – 5,000 rainbow trout. First stocking event for 2019!
Big Trinity Lake – 2,000 rainbow trout. First stocking event for 2019!
Castle Rocks State Park Fishing Pond – 500 rainbow trout
Southeast Region
Cub River – 1,250 rainbow trout throughout July. Great family camping destination.
Portneuf River Above Lava Hot Springs – 2,500 rainbow trout throughout July. Fish and Game manages multiple access areas on this section of the river. And, you can soak in the world famous hot pools after a day of fishing!
Upper Snake Region
Camas Creek – 1,500 rainbow trout. This is a new stocking location. This will be only the third stocking event since 1999.
Teton River (near Rexburg) – 1,000 rainbow trout. Another new stocking site. Hasn’t been stocked since 1994.
Salmon Region
Wallace Lake – 1,500 tiger trout! Only stocking event for the year. Unique species for anglers to catch.
Iron Lake – 1,000 rainbow trout. Beautiful, remote mountain lake that you can drive to. First stocking event for 2019.
Meadow Lake – 2,000 rainbow trout. Highest lake you can drive to in the Salmon Region.
